Atlanta educator William McFarlin passes away at 74


William Claude McFarlin, Jr. aka “Mac”, was born on Sunday, August 13, 1950, in Atlanta, GA to William C. McFarlin Sr. and Birdie Louise Torrance McFarlin.  He was an only child. He made his transition from labor to reward on Saturday, February 08, 2025, at home with his wife of 45 years, Dr. Murdell Claudia Walker McFarlin. Mac was a proud Atlanta native who graduated from St. Joseph High School, Atlanta, GA in 1968 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from his beloved Morehouse College in 1972.  He earned a Masters degree from Atlanta University and would go on to study and receive an Education Specialist degree Ed.S. from Clemson University. Mr. Mac, as he was so lovingly known was a teacher and administrator in Atlanta Public Schools for 40 years, working at 11 different school sites. He was a lifetime Allen Temple AME Church member in Atlanta, GA.  He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  (Pi Chapter, Spring 1972). He was the father of four daughters, Arnedia (Anthony) Mapp, Areshia McFarlin, Ashley McFarlin, and Aaronnette McFarlin.  He had five grandsons and one granddaughter. Burial services are being provided by Murray Brothers Funeral Home. The viewing will take place Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 3 PM to 6 PM, with Wake from 6 PM to 7 PM, and Kappa Alpha Psi (private) Memorial Service from 7 PM to 8 PM.  Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11 AM at Allen Temple AME Church, located at 1625 Joseph E. Boone Blvd NW, 30314. Internment immediately following the services at Southview Cementary, 1990 Jonesboro Rd SE, Atlanta, GA 30315
